Maybe we should start with a look at SNAP or Food Stamps?
Today there is a spending cycle we have created in this country. The Government spends a lot of money on Healthcare and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. However, the Government also spends a lot of money on Food Stamps and looking at shopping carts… it seems much of that money buys Soda, Snacks cookies, chips, ice cream, and so on which seems to be creating millions of unhealthy children that then become perfect future healthcare customers. So you can see the perfect little cycle we have unintentionally created.
I mean if a homeless person who can’t cook is not allowed to buy a cooked chicken from the deli counter, but can buy a fresh made birthday cake from the bakery? That doesn't exactly make sense. As it is you can not buy things like beer, wine, cigarettes, pet food, toilet paper, etc… So we obviously have the technology to not allow things at the checkout. Yes it’s tough to say no to a kid in the cookie isle. However if you're living on SNAP or Food Stamps maybe a mental reminder that you are spending other peoples money isn’t a bad thing?
I’m all for the “Safety Net” programs like SNAP but the current situation of spending billions of dollars on one program that creates the need to spend Trillions on another program might just be something to look into.
